Catha edulis Khat Qat Kat seeds x10
Khat, Catha edulis, is a slow-growing evergreen shrub or small tree, although the more water you give it during summer the faster it willl grow. Native to the highlands of East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It typically reaches heights of 2 to 5 meters and thrives in well-drained soils. I have mine in straight sand and clay.
The plant has shiny, serrated, oblong leaves and small white to pale yellow flowers arranged. Its fruit is a small, three-part capsule containing winged seeds. Khat prefers full sun and a warm, temperate to subtropical climate, with moderate drought tolerance once established. Though often cultivated for its leaves, it also plays a role in agroforestry systems for erosion control and as a windbreaks.
This is the red stemmed variety.
