Like most Australian fruits it has a unique complex flavour profile of tangy, salty sweet and fruity.
The fruits can be utilised in many ways drying, jams, spice rubs or just eaten fresh. The kernel is also edible and tastes like fruity marzipan!
The Semi-parasitic trees grow in arid areas and prefer a dryer sandy environment. They require a host plant to grow. You can use Acacia or Casuarinas but the Acacia Acuminata (Raspberry Jam Wattle) in particular has been reported to be successful.
The germination can be tricky, but not impossible. The outer shell must be gently cracked to let moisture in. They then require consistent warm weather moisture for many weeks. They then need to be planted near their host plant. Allowing to germinate in a worm farm can be a way to stop mold and rot.
Grow in full sun.
